Brooke Buckley

Brooke Buckley, M.D., FACS is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University in 1998 and medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in 2002.

Dr. Buckley completed her general surgery internship and residency at Fairview Hospital in the Cleveland Clinic System before taking her first staff position with Shore Health in Easton, Maryland in 2007. After five years dedicated to the Eastern Shore, Dr. Buckley, along with her surgical partner, determined that they could provide care more aligned with their professional goals at Anne Arundel Medical Center and moved hospital affiliations in 2012. At that time, she took a position as a Surgical Hospitalist and subsequently has become the Medical Director of that group, now called Acute Care Surgery. In 2015, she was promoted to Chief of General Surgery at AAMC.

Dr. Buckley has dedicated a significant portion of her professional life to organized medicine with a focus on taking a broader look at medical care delivery. With specific interests in emergency surgical care and health-care delivery to rural communities, she has served on the MedChi Legislative Council, the Maryland Medical Political Action Committee, and the MedChi Board of Trustees. Most recently she was elected as MedChi President for 2015-2016. Prior to this, she served the American Medical Association as both a national officer for the Medical Student and Resident Sections as well as on the American Medical Political Action Committee Board (AMPAC). Additionally, she has attended AMPAC’s Campaign and Candidate Schools.

Dr. Buckley maintains a strong connection to family. Her parents, Barbara and Bill, are a constant source of courage and strength, and reside in Ohio. Her brother, Josh, an MBA and health care consultant, lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his family. He keeps her honest with lively Geo-political and health care debates. Her husband of six years, Darrin Lowery, holds a PhD in Geology. He studies coastal geo-morphology and sea level rise on the Delmarva Peninsula. Their greatest accomplishment and loves are their sons; Jack was born in 2013, and twins Joshua and Jacob were born in 2015.
