David Hexter

                                                             

Dr. Hexter received his B.A. from Amherst College, M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins.  He completed a residency and research fellowship in emergency medicine at Johns Hopkins and is board certified in this specialty.  He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Hexter joined the medical staff at Harbor Hospital Center in 1991 and continues to actively practice there.  He has previously served as Chair of their Department of Emergency Medicine, President of Delmar Emergency Specialists, a single specialty physician group, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Triangle Health Alliance, a management services organization.  

In 2007, Dr. Hexter was appointed as a Medical Officer for the Social Security Administration, providing consultation to management regarding workplace health issues and emergency response planning for an organization with 66,000 employees.  He has published peer-reviewed articles pertaining to infectious diseases in the emergency department and has served as a stadium physician for both the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.

At MedChi, Dr. Hexter served as Chair of the Legislative and Medical Policy Councils, as well as Eastern Group Trustee, prior to being elected President-elect/President in 2009.  MedChi presented him with the Henry P. and M. Page Laughlin Distinguished Member and Distinguished Committee Chair Awards in 2005 and 2007, respectively.  

Dr. Hexter was the lead plaintiff in MedChi’s successful litigation challenging a payor’s non-compliance with  Maryland’s non-participating HMO reimbursement law.  He currently serves as Secretary of the Maryland Chapter of the   American College of Emergency Physicians and Immediate Past President of the Harford County Medical Association.  The Governor appointed him to Emergency Medical Services Board in 2006.

A life-long Marylander, Dr. Hexter is an avid runner and enjoys waterskiing and road races in his free time.
