William Pepper was born in Philadelphia on
August 21, 1843. He was a son of Dr. William Pepper and received his AB in
1862, his MD in 1864, and his AM in 1865, all from the University of
Pennsylvania. He also received an LLD from Lafayette College in 1881. He was a
Visiting Physician at the Philadelphia Infirmary in 1864-65; a Resident
Physician at the Pennsylvania Hospital in 1865-66; a Curator and Pathologist at
the Pennsylvania Hospital from 1866-70; a Visiting Physician at the
Philadelphia Hospital in 1867 among many other positions. Dr. Pepper was an Honorary Member of the Faculty.
Dr. Pepper served as President of the American Climatological Association 1885-86 and of the First Pan American Medical Congress Washington in 1893. He was the Editor of the Philadelphia Medical Times in 1870-71 and was the author of Pepper's System in 1886. He was appointed as Knight Commander of St. Olaf in Sweden.
He died in California on July 28, 1898.
