Frank B. Hines was
a descendant of one of Maryland’s oldest families. He graduated from the
University of Maryland Medical School in 1906, and was a physician in Chestertown
from then until his death.
At the time of his
death, Dr. Hines was the Chief of Staff at the Kent-Queen Anne’s hospital, which
he had helped found, and was the medical examiner for Kent County. Dr.
Hines was Chief Surgeon of the 115th Infantry Division for
approximately 20 years. After WWI,
he was largely responsible for the establishment of the county’s first National
Guard unit. He was a veteran of that war and served as the chairman of the Kent
County draft board, and on an appeal draft board for Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
In 1938, Dr. Hines
became the President of the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, and
also headed the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association.
Frank B. Hines
died in the hospital he helped establish on March 28, 1950.
