Frederick D. Chappelear graduated from the University of
Maryland’s School of Medicine and then served in the Navy from 1905-1907. When
he left the Navy, he moved to Lewes, Delaware and practiced medicine there, and
in Rehoboth, until 1913. He moved back to Maryland and settled in Hughesville
in Charles County, where he helped organize the hospital in LaPlata, and kept a
private practice.
In 1936 he was elected as President of the Medical &
Chirurgical Faculty, where he had been a member since 1913. He attended the
Faculty’s annual meeting the week before he died, and also kept his medical
practice until his death. Dr. Chappelear was a member of the Charles County
Medical Society.
Dr. Frederick D. Chappelear died in Hughesville, Maryland on
May 4, 1949.
