G. Carroll Lockard was born in Baltimore on February 22,
1882. After graduation from Baltimore City College, he began his medical studies
at the University of Maryland Medical School, graduating with a certificate of
honor in May of 1903.
Upon graduation, Dr. Lockard became associated with Dr. CharlesWellman Mitchell, a noted pediatrician, and remained his private assistant
until Dr. Mitchell’s death in 1917.
In 1904, Dr. Lockard was appointed as an assistant in pathology
and bacteriology at the University’s Medical School. In 1911, he became an
associate in medicine, and two years later, was named assistant professor of
clinical medicine and pediatrics.
In 1918, he was appointed a professor of clinical medicine,
a post which he held until his death in 1949.
Dr. Lockard was a member of the American Medical
Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Committee on Medical Care in
Maryland, and the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland where he was President
in 1945. He was also a member of the Monthly Medical Reunion, as well as other
medical and social clubs.
Dr. Lockard died of a cerebral hemorrhage on August 7, 1949.
He had been sick for the prior six months.
