I am a native Baltimorean and a graduate of the University of Maryland. I received my medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and have practiced as an Orthopedist for over 35 years. I am also a French-trained pastry chef, having graduated from the Ritz-Escoffier Ecole de Gastronomie; however, my Thanksgiving dessert fell apart.
My wife, Kathleen Abbott, is originally from Italy. I speak four languages including English,
usually all in the same sentence. I am a member of the Board of Councilors for
the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serve on both the State
Legislative and Regulatory Issues Committee and the Advocacy Resources Committee.
I volunteered for IAIME’s legislative committee on becoming a fellow.
In addition to serving as President of MedChi, I have also served as Baltimore
County Medical Association President and Baltimore County Trustee. I have been
on MedChi’s Legislative Committee for over a decade, co-chairing it for the
last three. I am an alternate delegate on Maryland’s Delegation to the AMA.
I am an Eagle Scout, as is my son, and have served on the Board of the Boy
Scouts since the 1990’s. I occasionally make time to still be an Orthopedic
Surgeon, although I no longer operate. My daughter lives in Japan so she can
learn Shibori, the ancient Japanese art of textile dyeing. My son attended law
school at UVA.
