Howard Franklin Kinnamon,
Jr. was born in Easton on November 23, 1910, the son of local dairy farmers. He
graduated from Easton High School in 1927, and attended New York University,
and then the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where
he graduated in
1939. After completing his internship and residency at Baltimore’s Mercy
Hospital, he served as an orthopedic surgeon in the European Theatre in WWII, mainly
in England, France and Germany.
After the war, Dr.
Kinnamon returned to Easton and set up a private practice in orthopedic and
traumatic surgery. He was also the founder and Chief of the Orthopedic Clinic
at Memorial Hospital in Easton, as well as the chief of the prosthetic clinic
and the Chief of Staff from 1966 to 1968. For many years, he was the only
orthopedic surgeon on the Eastern Shore. Dr. Kinnamon is also credited with
establishing the physical therapy department at Memorial Hospital.
Even though Dr.
Kinnamon retired from private practice in 1978, he became the chief of medicine
at the Eastern Shore State Hospital in Cambridge and remained there until his
full retirement four years later.
Dr. Kinnamon was a
member of various boards and organizations including the Medical Advisory Board
of the Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles, the Talbot County Medical
Society, the state chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and the Medical
& Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, where he served as President from 1961-1962.

died after a long illness on January 5, 1996 at age 85.
