J.D. Drinkard, a Towson phychiatrist, became the 125th President of the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty in April of 1985. A native of Virginia, Dr. Drinkard received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He served two years in the Naval Medical Service and completed psychiatric residencies at Spring Grove State Hospital, and the Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital.
After accepting a permanent position at Sheppard Pratt, he developed and directed the affiliation of the Department of Child Psychiatry with the Maryland Training School for Boys. Dr. Sheppard was in the private practice of psychiatry and held teaching and supervisory appointments at Sheppard Pratt Hospital. He was a consultant to the Social Security Administration, the Baltimore County Board of Education, the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, and the Maryland State Department of Education.
Dr. Drinkard was an active member of the Baltimore County Medical Association, having served as its president and had leadership roles with the programs and ethics committees. He was a member of the Committee on Medical Discipline of the State of Maryland.
Long active in the movement toward integrated neighborhoods, Dr. Drinkard lived and was active in the Windsor Hills neighborhood. He participated in the Baltimore Neighborhoods and National Neighbors organizations.
