John Lloyd Yeates was born in
Harford County, Maryland on December 27, 1803. He was educated at Baltimore
College and received his medical degree at the University of Maryland in 1822,
the same year that he joined the Faculty. From 1836 to 1840, Yeates was a
member of the Baltimore City Council, and in 1840, he was an Orator of the
Medical & Chirurgical Faculty. In 1853, he became the President of the
Faculty, and was also President of the Medical & Surgical Society of
Baltimore in 1855-56.
John L. Yeates died in
Baltimore on July 24, 1875.
