Leslie E. Daugherty
was born in Clinton County, Ohio and graduated from the University of Cincinnati
Medical Society and then did his internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York
City.
He did his
graduate work in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard
University. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps during WWI.
In 1922, he became
a member of the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, where, in 1959, he
became the President. He was also a member of the American Medical Association,
the Southern Medical Association, the Allegany County Medical Society and the
Maryland Ophthalmological Society. He was President and Secretary of the Memorial
Hospital (Cumberland) Medical Staff.
Dr. Daugherty was
the curator for the Medical Section Historical Society and the first
representative from Allegany County to the Journal Staff State Medical Society.
Leslie E. Daugherty died at
Memorial Hospital on February 11, 1976. Members of the Allegany Medical Society
served as honorary pallbearers at his funeral.
