Dr. M. McKendree
Boyer was born in Damascus, March 25. 1907, a son of the late Dr. George M. and
Annie Bowman Boyer.
Dr. Boyer was
graduated from Damascus High School in 1923 and from Mount Airy High School in
1924. From George Washington University, he received his AB and MD degrees. He
served his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital
in Cleveland. This was followed by a year of post-graduate work in Vienna,
Austria, and Queen’s Square Hospital, London, England.
Dr. Boyer entered
private practice with his father in Damascus in 1935. Dr. Boyer had been a
member of the Montgomery County Medical Society since 1935, and served as its
president in 1943. In 1977, he was the recipient of the Medical Society Award
for “long and dedicated service to the Society and to the Community," He
was a member of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland,
served in many and varied capacities, and as president in 1964. He was a member
of the American Medical Association and had served as an alternate delegate to
that organization from the State of Maryland since 1966, He was also a member
of the Southern Medical Association.
Dr. Boyer was on
the medical staff of Sibley, Frederick Memorial, Suburban and Montgomery
General hospitals. At Montgomery General, he served as vice chairman of the
medical staff, 1947-1959; chief of staff, 1959-1963; and chief of medicine,
1963-1975.
In the spring of 1978, Dr. Boyer was honored by both the medical staff and the board of directors as “outstanding practitioner of medicine, community leader, and humanitarian.” His wife, Helen Boyer, was also active in the medical community.

In 1975, Dr, Boyer
was one of five Maryland physicians appointed by the governor to serve on the
board of directors of the Medical Mutual Liability Insurance Society of
Maryland, From 1935 to the present, Dr, Boyer was a member of the board of
directors of the Bank of Damascus, and had been a vice president since 1965. He
was a lifetime member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and served on the
Board of Stewards for a number of years.
M. McKendree Boyer died
Thursday, Dec. 21, 1978 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Maryland.
