Russell Wright

H. Russell Wright, Jr., M.D., MedChi’s 166th president, is an otolaryngologist and allergy specialist from Towson, Maryland.  

Dr. Wright holds Bachelor degrees from the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He received his medical degree in 1979 from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency and a fellowship in Otolaryngology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1983. Dr. Wright served as Medical Staff President for St. Joseph’s Medical Center for two years and also served on the Medical Staff at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Dr. Wright has been an active member of the National Guard for more than 25 years and has attained the rank of Colonel. He joined the Guard following his service in the Army in Vietnam, where he served as a Company Commander and Staff Officer for the First Cavalry Division.

Dr. Wright has also been an active member of the scouting community for many years, serving as a scoutmaster for both the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of America.  He served at the district and national levels on Health and Safety Councils and on fundraising steering committees. He has served as a physician at the Boy Scout Jamboree in 1997, 2005, 2010, and 2013. He was honored in 2013 with the BSA Baltimore Area Council’s City Lights Community Service Award.

Dr. Wright has previously served as president of the Baltimore County Medical Association, Speaker of the House of MedChi, and as Baltimore County Trustee on the MedChi Board of Trustees.

Dr. Wright and his wife, Judy, have two children.
