Arnold Elzey
Arnold Elzey was born in Somerset
County, Maryland on February 16, 1758. He resided in Montgomery County, Md. and
then moved to Washington, D.C. He became a Garrison Surgeon's Mate in the Fifth
District, US Army on April 15, 1814; and became the Post Surgeon in Washington
DC on April 10, 1816, holding this office until death. He was a Vice President of
the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. Died at Washington, DC on June
6, 1818.

Arnold Elzey received his AB at the College of New Jersey (later Princeton) in 1775. He was a member of the American Whig Society, Founder of the Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, Vice President of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. He was a member of the Lower House of Somerset County in 1784. Dr. Elzey served as a surgeon in the 23rd Regiment of the Maryland Militia from 1794 to 1800. He was a Garrison surgeon’s mate at the US Army Fifth District, and the post surgeon in Washington, DC.
He owned about 775 acres of land in Somerset
County, which he obtained through his marriage. Through purchases, this
eventually increased to more than 1006 acres.

Levin Irving
Levin Irving was born
September 5, 1752, the son of George Irving. Married Leah Handy, daughter of
George Handy on January 1, 1777 and had two sons: Dr William Irving and Dr
Handy Harris Irving. Dr. Irving resided in Somerset County, Md. He died April 8,
1807.

Ezekiel Haynie Somerset
Ezekiel Haynie was born in
Northumberland County, Va. on September 29, 1760. He was the son of Samuel and
Judith Haynie. In childhood, he moved to Salisbury, Md. and was educated and
practiced medicine there until the Revolution. He became a Surgeon's Mate (under
R. Pindell); in the First Maryland Regiment (Col OH Williams) 1779; Surgeon's
Mate, Second Maryland Regiment, 1782; Surgeon Fifth Regiment, 1783 until the
dissolution of the Army. He was a member of the Society of Cincinnati of
Maryland after the Revolution. He had married Bettie Bayly, and of this union, two
daughters survived and married . Dr. Haynie settled at Snow Hill, Md. but in a
short time moved to Princess Anne, Somerset County, Md. where he had a large
and lucrative practice until his death in 1803.

Mathias Jones
Mathias Jones was born
in Somerset County, Md in 1768. He received an MB and practiced at Princess
Anne, Somerset County, Md. He married Milcah Gale Wilson Chaillé
on August 6, 1797. Of
his seven children, William L. was a physician. Dr. Mathias Jones died in
Princess Anne May 8, 1826.

John Woolford
John Woolford was born in Somerset County, Md in
1760. He was a Censor 1840. “A man of sterling worth and great influence” Dr.
Woolford died near Princess Anne, Somerset County, Md. on November 1,5 1836. Ex-Gov
Robert E. Pattison of Pennsylvania, his great nephew, says he was brother of
Col. Thomas Woolford of the Maryland Line in the Revolution, and died unmarried.
