John Monmonier

John Francis Monmonier was born in Baltimore on April 4, 1813, the son of F.W. Monmonier. He was educated at St. Mary's College Baltimore and was a student in the private anatomical school of Dr. Duncan Turnbull, and at the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 1834.
Monmonier was a member of the City Council of Baltimore from 1836 to 1837, and again from 1840 to 1847. He served on the School Board as a Commissioner from 1836 to 1852, and for several years was President of the School Board. He was the Physician to the Board of Health from 1849 to 1851.
Monmonier served as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland from 1854 to 1877; as the Orator in 1871 and as President of the Faculty in 1875-1876. He assisted in the reorganization of Washington University School of Medicine of Baltimore in 1867. 
Monmonier was also Professor of Physiology at Washington University School of Medicine from 1867 to 1875; Professor of Diseases of Women and Children at Washington University School of Medicine from 1875 to 1877; and as President of the Baltimore Medical Association in 1880-1881. 
He died at Baltimore June 8, 1894.
