William Thomas Hammond was born in Berlin, Maryland in
October 24, 1886. He received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in
1909. He was a surgeon and served in the
Army during the First World War. He was President of the Medical and
Chirurgical Faculty in 1947.
Hammond was painted by Lt. Col. James P. Wharton, a career military man, who painted and sketched in his spare time.
