Tales from the Medical Examiners Office
The 2016 Hunt History of Maryland Medicine lecture will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2018. The topic will be Tales from the Medical Examiner’s Office with speaker Bruce Goldfarb from the ME’s office.
In 1938, members of the Faculty proposed a state-wide medical examiners office, instead of the generally accepted county coroner system. A state-wide ME's office would eliminate the political aspect of the system, and would professionalize the office.
In 1939, the proposal was accepted by the Maryland State Legislature, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is now located in a state-of-the-art building in Baltimore.
Luckily, we had the perfect image to illustrate the lecture – a 1903 UM Anatomy Class picture.
