The Importance of Archives
Nancy McCall, Chief Archivist at the Allan Chesney Archives at Johns Hopkins will speak about why archives are as important now as they were 100 years ago. With all of our work being saved digitally, and over-written as changes are made, we are losing the thought process that comes with creativity and discovery.
And as computer programs are updated and outdated, we lose the information that they contain. Floppy discs? Eight-track tapes? Word Perfect? All basically unreadable now.
It is sometimes easier to find information about a physician from 1880 than one from 1980! Our all-digital life is not really what it's cracked up to be!
