Manning W. Alden

Dr, Manning W. Alden, 80, retired chief pathologist at Anne Arundel Medical Center, died of a heart attack Feb. 11, 1996 at the hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., Dr. Alden was a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden, two Pilgrims who came to America on the Mayflower.

He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from George Washington University, and served as a lieutenant in the Navy Medical Corps during World War II. Dr. Alden worked for four years at the former Gallinger Municipal Hospital in Washington, and for two years at the National Cancer Institute and Georgetown University Medical Center before coming, to Anne Arundel Medical Center.

After retiring as chief pathologist in 1986, he became an emeritus member of the medical staff. He served as president of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland in 1974. 

In 1956, he moved from Silver Spring to Annapolis. He was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. He was also a life member of the Silver Spring Fire Department, the Chesapeake Yacht Club and the Old South Country Club.
